Configuration (GUI)

Requirements

Before configuring the device  ensure you have the following information to hand:

  • IP requirements of the Lantronix Device - Fixed IP or Automatically assigned
    • If Fixed - the IP address to assign to the device
    • If Automatically assigned the protocol in use (DHCP is the standard)
  • The Fixed IP address assigned to the PC (or Server)  with the Relaylink installed
  • The Port to be assigned to the device in the Relaylink

Lantronix Device Set-up Tool Installation

Download and install DeviceInstaller application from https://www.lantronix.com/products/deviceinstaller/

Note: Requires .net Framework 4.0

Once successfully installed open the Device Installer Application to complete the installation configuration of the tool. You may be given the warning “WARNING: No serial ports were found on this PC!” this is safe to ignore.

If your PC has multiple networks you will be prompted to choose the networks you wish to search for the Lantronix device. Select the appropriate network(s) and click OK.

Configure Lantronix

Step 1: Find Device on Network.

Attach the Lantronix Device to your network, open Device Installer and click “Search”.

Once found, the xDirect device is displayed in the right pane

Step 2: Initial Configuration

Before the device can be configured to your requirements, an initial configuration must be supplied to access the Web Interface.

Do one of the following:

If using Automatic IP assignments,

  1. Ensure that DHCP is selected
  2. Then click next
  3. Then click Assign

If using a Static IP, 

  1. Select the Device and Click “Assign IP”
  2. If prompted enter the device MAC address which can be found on the back of the device (e.g. 0080A3974AC5) and click next.
  3. Select the appropriate IP configuration for your network - If unsure select “Obtain an IP address automatically” and click Next
  4. Enter the appropriate information for your chosen IP Assignment Method
  5. To save your work, click Assign.

The Lantronix Device is now ready to be configured.

Step 3: Connect to Configuration Interface

The details of the Relaylink that the Lantronix device will connect and the Lantronix configuration are entered via a web Interface, this can be accessed via the DeviceInstaller tool.

  1. Double Click on the Lantronix XDirect device in the right-hand pane.
  2. Select the Web Configuration Tab
  3. Click the green arrow “Go” button

Login using the credentials supplied on the Quick Start Guide that came with the device:

The standard Lantronix defaults are:

Username: admin

Password: PASS

*Note: This will apply to any device with the C12-14 designation on the device. 

Enter your user name and password. The factory default username is "admin" and the factory
default password is the last 8 characters of the Device ID (for devices manufactured after
January 1, 2020).  

Scan QR code on the back of the Lantronix. The last 8 values before (M1) are the password.

Step 4: Enter Relaylink Details

Navigate to the Connection tab and change the following settings:

  • Set Active Connect to Auto start
  • Set Remote Port to the Port to be assigned to the device in the Relaylink.
  • Set Remote Host to the Static IP address assigned of the PC/Server with the Relaylink installed

Click OK and then Apply Settings to confirm.

Step 5: Edit Lantronix Serial Settings

Navigate to the Serial Settings tab and change the following settings:

  • Port Settings:
    • Protocol: RS232
    • Baud Rate: 9600
    • Data Bits: 8
    • Flow Control: None
    • Parity: None
    • Stop Bits: 1
  • Flush Mode:
    • Flush Input Buffer - With Active Connect: Yes
    • Flush Output Buffer - With Active Connect: Yes

Click OK and then Apply Settings to confirm

Step 6: IP Address Assignment

Automatically Assigned IP Address

To ensure the Lantronix xDirect device is configured to be automatically assigned an IP address navigate to the Network Tab.

  • Select “Obtain IP address automatically”
  • Select the appropriate “Auto Configuration Methods”
    • Note: DHCP is the most common method used.

Click OK to save the Configuration and then Click Apply Settings.

Configuration of the Lantronix xDirect is now complete and ready for use.

Fixed IP Address Assignment

To ensure the Lantronix xDirect device is configured with the fixed IP address provided by the customer navigate to the Network Tab.

  • Select “Use the following IP configuration”
  • Set “IP Address” to the IP address provided by the customer
  • Set “Subnet Mask” to 255.255.255.0
  • Set “Default Gateway” to 0.0.0.0
  • Set “DNS Server” to 0.0.0.0

Click OK to save the Configuration and then Click Apply Settings.

Configuration of the Lantronix xDirect is now complete and ready for use on the customer’s site.

 Step 7: Change Default Password (Optional, but recommended)

If you wish to lock the configuration of the device you can change the default password of the Lantronix xDirect.

  1. Navigate to the Server tab.
  2. Set the “Telnet\Web Manager Password” to the required password
  3. Confirm the password in “Retype Password”
  4. Ensure the new password has been recorded in a secure password store.
  5. Click OK
  6. Click Apply Settings.

The Default password has now been changed.
